1966 Airstream Safari Food Concession Conversion

Interested in a vintage trailer converted to use in the ever growing food cart industry or other mobile store?  We can build it for you!

The owner brought us this fairly complete Airstream to convert into a mobile kitchen for his restaurant.  Two days later we had an empty shell and a big pile of parts and rubble.  Since we do not specialize in Airstreams the salvageable parts were donated to an Airstream restorer for spare parts in his restorations.

Working close with the owner we designed and built the interior to meet his efficiency needs as well as meeting local food cart codes.  We first covered the walls and ceiling with laminate (Formica) to provide an easy to clean and maintain surface as well as covering up all the old holes, outlet boxes, etc.  Custom counters were built and installed, also covered completely in red and yellow laminate to be easy to clean.  Three wash sinks, hand sink, water holding and gray water tanks were added.  All the necessary equipment for cooking hot dogs was installed, that’s a 4’ stainless steel propane grill to the right, two coolers to the left.  It was designed to plug into a 220V service if available or run off of a heavy duty generator.

On the exterior we modified the windows for service, the rear one opened up with a drop out shelf for convenient food pick up.  We custom built fold down aluminum covers that when open provides rigid awnings, when lowered they provided a water tight seal and security.  We had custom made red and yellow snap on awnings made to add color and style to our hot dog vendor.  The rest of the trailer was polished and we detailed the trim in red.  A local sign shop printed up signage and it was ready to go.
